The soul is the most valuable and precious thing, but the body is the most beautiful, the real spirit manifested in something concrete. And my exaltation to the body is to wear it”.

Helen Rödel is one of the most inspiring designers of her generation and her clothes have been created thinking of wearing them as an act of magic. The brand, namesake, one of the freshest and most intriguing to Brazil, was created in 2007 by people with purpose of transcendence, who create handmade pieces, rare and extraordinary, perfect in their construction, representing someone at their most immutable state.

Exercising time, she rescues manual techniques from the past and projects them into the future, as Inhabiting a missing link in the contemporary scene of fashion: the origins of luxury. The preciosity of her drawing in crochet is expressed clearly in the intricate mathematics of increases and decreases of points, which appear as rich reliefs, textures and exuberant femininity.

"I understand that these crafts are the past, the present and the future. They are ancestral arts of infinites possibilities for which I offer my ideals of beauty. This fantastic combination of needles, hands, and presence of mind enchants me greatly and my effort to renew its techniques is, in addition, of personal fulfillment and belief, a sincere desire that they keep alive by carrying along the change of times”.

Her design translates her own experiences of expression into the clothes she makes. Her true vocation was found in the interaction between the subject and the object and the creator and its creative process; two instances of the experience of art that are found in the depths of her creations, turning into something that surpasses the material: the immaterial that inhabits the design.

Her design point of view also attempts to unveil her lyrical gaze on her home country, Brazil. This was a sentimental election, intensely related to the idea of making a portrait of an incognito, unexplored Brazil. Everything born is so unknown. Brazil has a lot of land and history, but keeps itself perennially in a unborn status, perhaps because there is so much fertility here that always something fleshy and colorful is about to bloom.
I understand my clothes as a gate through ourselves. This land conforms its people, tans and rejoices them, gives them paths of contemplation and understanding. Brazilians, on the other hand, chew and swallow this earth, wander about it, wash in its waters, make themselves its image. I have nothing to offer them, but my Brazilian experience, in relations of otherness core to our self-knowledge”.

Temps juste

When made by hand and traditionally, objects have an additional meaning and uniqueness. Our creation process follows the idea of temps juste: the time needed to achieve perfection.

Each piece requires many hours of patient and precise work. But they also require passion and the expertise of a gesture mastered by the next generation of Brazilian artisans.

Tropical by nature

Her design perspectives also attempt to unveil her lyrical gaze on her home country, Brazil.
